Harris Bermondsey trip hosted by Oxford University
On Tuesday, two Year 12 Students, Yosan and Amina, visited Harris Bermondsey for a day of English Literature hosted by Oxford University.
The day began with a taste of university teaching with a fascinating lecture on literary theory. After that, students went to small seminar groups on a range of topics, from ‘Degeneration in Victorian Literature’ to ‘The Plays of Oscar Wilde’ and ‘The Harlem Renaissance’ to ‘Shakespeare’s Contemporaries’. These discussions, hosted by undergraduates and master’s students, were lively and engaging, as well as allowing students to ask any questions they had about life at Oxford and university more generally.
The day closed with an informative session on university applications. Students were told that 75% of graduate-entry jobs do not care what subject you studied at university (they may care where you studied and what grade you got). Therefore, follow your passions and study what interests you!
